Adventures in living abroad

Thank You

Someday I will find the words, and they will be perfect. For now, Mom and Dad, let me say thank you. Thank you for your enthusiasm when I announced that Andrew and I were moving to Prague. Thank you for your understanding that this was a dream come true, even if it meant moving across a country and an ocean. Thanks for helping us pack, schlepping our unwieldy furniture down both flights of stairs, and taking my plants. It can’t have been easy to know that I would soon be thousands of miles away, in a new country and culture. To know that I would not be around to go for coffee together, or to sit on your deck in the morning sunshine, or to have lunch at Whole Foods. Yet you encouraged us, hugged us, and sent us off with joy (and a beautiful card).
I have missed you these last months. There are so many people I want you to meet here in Prague, and so many places I want to show you. But I have missed sitting on your deck, sipping tea, and talking about our lives and the lives of those around us. I miss drinking Italian coffee at the coffee shop in Kirkland, the trips to parks for picnics, the dinners with all of us around the table, conversations drifting and merging like traffic on 1-5. I miss going for walks along the water, and sitting back into your couch to listen to the latest CD.
Thank you for giving us your blessing. And I can’t wait to see you in a month.
